Ology

With over 50 schools across Chennai, India, the Velammal Educational Trust are one of India’s most established teaching institutions. Today and for a first in Chennai they are introducing a series of schools that have a focus on STEAM education.

A key challenge was to create clear division from the existing tradition Indian curriculum to the new creative learning approach. We visited Chennai on several occasions to gain teacher, student and parent insights, gaining an understanding of the local market. We ran workshops with key stakeholders to discover how they saw the new schools would teach the creative learning curriculum and to help guide them towards a strategy and framework that would be the foundation for the new schools.

The heart of the brand strategy is expressed as Tomorrow World – We’re here to help our children develop the creative and critical thinking skills they’ll need in the future – so they’ll be able to challenge and change their world and beyond, for the better.

The visual identity for the tech school needed to challenge the norm of Indian education. It needed to feel global, not local and as much London as Chennai. The identity was built around the personality of the students; approachable, modern and smart.

The curriculum at Ology Tech is based on a 70%/30% split across STEAM learning and the traditional Indian syllabus. We took the idea of the 70/30 split across into the Ology identity using the circular form of the logotype as the foundation for the graphic approach.

Alongside the primary and secondary school, we created the brand and naming for the Kindergarten entry way. Called Olo it becomes the fun, expressive way into STEM learning.
